Starlab 26.5.11

Room two had a wonderful time at the starlab.

We learnt about some of the stars and their special names.

Mrs Wells came to help us crawl through the tunnel.

Wow the starlab was such fun. We had to crawl in the dark to get inside. They let Mrs Mortensen in the side because of the wheelchair. She was waiting inside with the torch. We saw lots of interesting things.

Queen Enya and Bailey 26.5.11

Bailey has learnt all his purple words. He only needs to learn his green words and he will become our first king of our bee hive. Enya is our second Queen. Congratulations you two.

Inflation Creation. Week 3 Term 2.

Next we carefully put 2 tablespoons of baking soda into the balloon. We fitted the balloon over the neck of the bottle and tied it on with string. Then we lifted the ballon straight and the baking soda fell into the vinegar. Straight away the balloon went up.

We filled our plastic drink bottle one third full of vinegar.

First we tested what happened when you added baking soda to vinegar.

Eve-Ellen's news week one

Look what Eve found in her garden. Eve had a sensible container to bring her find to school. We let it go at morning tea time as it was about to have her babies. She had a very fat tummy. We put her where the birds couldn't get her and she would have lots to eat.

Our bread experiments week one Term 2 2011

The milk has now soaked into the bread of the full fat milk and the cream has dried up leaving a layer of fat around the bread. Flies has started to land on the bread and it had begun to stink so we had to throw it out. On the low fat milk white mould had started to grow in the middle of the bread.

On day two the low fat milk had soaked into the bread. The full fat milk was only half as full. Around the third piece of bread the cream had become like a custard.

We used our three different containers of liquid from our first experiment. Low fat milk, full fat milk and cream. They all had three drops of yellow food colouring and a squirt of detergent in each. The cream container was very difficult to take to the science table as it was so runny.

Science experiment one. Milk

Look at those swirling patterns.

Wow it exploded out to the edges. You have to watch carefully as it is very fast.

We thought the food colouring looked like a bear or a dog. What do you think?

Mr Baker is going to squirt the cream.

We are putting the food colouring into the cream.

Mr Baker was on release so he came in and helped us so Mrs Mortensen could video and take photos.

Woops we put far too much food colouring into the low fat milk so we had to start again.

We got three different types of milk. Low fat, full fat and cream. We poured one cup into each container. Then we added three drops of food colouring. Next we squired some detergent onto the food colouring and watched what happened. We found the low fat milk worked best.

Assembly Room2 week 11 2011

We sang our song "Singing in the Rain."

Our visitors.

Joshua got to welcome our visitors

Tyrese asked everyone to stand for "God defend New Zealand."

It was Room 2's turn to take assembly in week 11. We had some guests who presented awards from sport's Horowhenua. Room 2 played it's in the bag. Ashton was the lucky person who won it's in the bag. He won a $5.00 lunch voucher but missed out on a ride in Mrs Mortensen's wheelchair. Then we sang "Singing in the Rain". Everyone laughed. We are taking assembley again in week 3 of term 2.
